Cycling Gala Day at Ball Green Primary School

Children at Ball Green Primary School in Stoke-on-Trent have been treated to a fun Cycling Gala day thanks to their fantastic cycling efforts at the school.

The gala was their prize for winning the 2009 Bike ‘n’ Hike Challenge organised by CycleStoke. The challenge was a four-week attempt to cycle the equivalent of Land’s End to John O’Groats to and from school. The Ball Green youngsters beat every other school in the city, managing to cycle a total of 2,651 miles.

The school increased its bike storage to 60 spaces since it was first introduced last October and between 45 to 60 children now cycle regularly.

CycleStoke Project Officer Phil Chatterley, said: “They’re absolutely inspirational. They and their parents and carers, really got the idea and put in a wonderful effort”

Ball Green Primary school will now be the official school for the Stoke-on-Trent leg of the Tour of Britain race later this year.
